Dr. Tsui is an engineer, computer scientist, and biomedical informatician. His research focuses on three areas: 1) developing methods using AI, machine learning, natural language processing, data science, data engineering, mobile health (mHealth), and signal processing for healthcare needs; 2) implementing, deploying, and analyzing real-time production systems and data warehouse; 3) supporting biomedical informatics education.  Dr. Tsui and the Tsui Lab develop and deploy projects and support systems whose aim is to improve healthcare and address the needs of clinicians.

Dr. Tsui has served as a principal investigator and a co-investigator in multiple research projects funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Department of Defense (DoD), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and philanthropic foundation. He has published 100+ peer-reviewed papers and has been working in the healthcare field for more than 25 years. Dr. Tsui serves as an Associate Editor of the ACM Transactions on Computing for Healthcare, an inaugural editorial board member of the JAMIA OPEN, and an inaugural advisory board member of the advancing patient safety through technology challenge, Jewish Healthcare Foundation. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Dr. Tsui teaches the course of “Introduction to Biomedical and Health Informatics” at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He has served as a dissertation advisor to doctoral students and a mentor to post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty members.

Dr. Tsui’s Laboratory at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania has been hosting international visiting scholars from different countries to work on various biomedical informatics research projects.
