Population Health - Making Science Matter: Keynote by Sue Curry

The U.S. lags behind other developed nations in many health outcomes, points out Sue Curry, PhD.  Her 2021 keynote, "Population Health: Making Science Matter," looked at how to move the bar. In this Brian L. Strom Visiting Professorship lecture, Dr. Curry emphasized the importance of disparities in health—and reminded us that reducing these is complicated, despite good intentions. And she elaborated on three other "musts" in population health research. Dr. Curry has served as Chair of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. She is emeritus Dean and Distinguished Professor in the Department of Health Management and Policy of the University of Iowa College of Public Health.

About Us

To understand health and disease today, we need new thinking and novel science —the kind  we create when multiple disciplines work together from the ground up. That is why this department has put forward a bold vision in population-health science: a single academic home for biostatistics, epidemiology and informatics.
